While contracted as the Marketing Director for this Oakland, California high school, with its deep emphasis on social justice, I developed marketing communications strategies for Admissions recruitment, Development fundraising and the Summer Academy programs. The visionary President of the school, Dr. Steve Phelps, had done significant work on innovating programming and operations. The identified challenges for the school were to increase both the numbers and quality of the applicant pool and to improve the school’s financial position. I repositioned, branded and launched new integrated marketing communications programs across Admissions, Development and Summer Academy programs to drive brand awareness and engagement towards the next level of growth. Programs included: a new website, fully integrated (digital, print, cable TV, outdoor, radio & collateral) Admissions recruitment advertising; Admissions view book and videos, Development campaigns, Summer Academy advertising and email campaign. Significant impacts included filling the pipeline for admissions recruitment that resulted in record application numbers and enrollment yield over three consecutive years, as well as a continuous upward trend in engagement and fundraising and summer program returns. Creative partners included Kathleen Heafey (design), Robin Mortarotti & Normandie Ramirez (video), and many more.
